After the successful operation in the Strimon Valley, 2nd Panzer Division turned south toward Salonika, the main city of northern Greece and a strategic key. The quick capture of Salonika would secure one of Europe's leading ports and isolate the Greek formations fighting along the well-fortified "Metaxas Line" to the east. The Greeks, aware of this threat, ordered the 19th Motorized Division to intercept the Germans and delay them near Polikastron.
Objectives: Your company will move south and destroy the enemy positions in and around the village area along the road. One platoon will follow the road to the village. Your platoon, supported on its right flank by the remaining platoon, must move south then east to flank the antitank positions in the village. After eliminating any resistance, move to the objective. The terrain is exceedingly rugged, and it will be slow going. Do not become impatient and make a mistake.
